MNSA Potential New Fields

Friends, families and volunteers of the  Marple Newtown Soccer Association (MNSA) – we hope 2017 is treating you well.  As you are aware, a goal of the MNSA Board is to improve the playing conditions for our 1,000 players.  In the past we have kept you informed of potential new opportunities and have asked that you get involved to increase the chance of success.  We are now contacting you regarding a new proposal from Marple Township to build fields for local youth sports.

I am pleased to say that the Marple Township Commissioners have an understanding of our needs and are working with us to make improvements.  One concept recently discussed and worked on includes building fields on the township property located on the northeast area of the intersection of West Chester Pike and Malin Road (see below aerial map and attached pdf file).  This township owned property has great potential for becoming a youth sport facility that we can all be proud of.

Another initiative the Township is considering relates to improving the Broomall Firehouse.  The Township was successful in obtaining a grant to complete this project.  As originally conceived, the project included improving the existing firehouse at its current location, which is on the west side of Malin Road.

We recently learned that the Broomall Fire Company is now requesting a change in the project scope and have asked to relocate the firehouse across the street on the open space property that was identified for the youth athletic fields.  This item is on the Marple Township Board of Commissioner’s Work Session Meeting to be held on February 6, 2017, 7:00 p.m. at the township building.  While we all recognize that the firehouse project has merit, our community has precious remaining open space to improve and support our growing youth sports community.  The site at issue may be our last opportunity to preserve space for this vitally important cause.  Therefore, we urge you to attend the meeting, listen to the proposal and vocalize your opinion.  The Board of Commissioners need your input so they can make an informed decision that supports the needs of the community.
